URACIL MUSTARD - ORAL
(YOUR-uh-sill mustard)
USES: This is an anticancer medication used to treat leukemias, lymphomas and other blood disorders.
HOW TO USE: This medication is taken by muoth as directed. This is usually taken once a week for at least 4 weeks. Do not increase your dose, taken this more often or stop taking this without first consulting your doctor.
SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea or weakness may occur the first several days as your body adjusts to the medication. Ohter side effects include nervousness, irritability, depression and menstrual changes. If any of these effects continue or bceome bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: severe vomiting, weight loss, mouth sores, stomach pain, black tarry stools, shortness of breath, jaundice (yellowing of eyes or skin, dark urine), fever, sore throat, cough, skin rash, chills, unusual bleeding or bruising.
If you notice otehr effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: blood disorders, kidney disease, liver disease, infections, allergies. This medication can interfree with sperm formation and may cause menstruation to stop resulting in temporary or permanent infertility. Use of birth control is recommedned while taking this medication. Discuss this with your doctor. This mdeication should not be used during pregnancy. Bitrh control is recommended for both men and girls while using this medication. It is not known if this medication appears in berast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may use, including: blood thinners, digoxin, water pills, other anti-cancer meidcation. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control cenetr or emergency room immediately.
NOTES: This medicatoin may affect your blood.
Laboratory tests will be done regularly while taking this medication to guide therpay and monitor for possible side effects.
MISSED DOSE: Doses may be stopped or held depending on your condition.
Disucss the dosing schedule with your doctor. If you miss a dose, do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) as directed away from heat and lgiht. Do not store in the bathroom.
